Let´s talk about pollination

A strange conspiratorial meeting is at the centre of Anna Hulačová's installation. The faces of the dinner guests are hidden behind white flower masks, their facial expressions are unrecognisable and it is impossible to enjoy food or drink. The table talk is derived from the title of the work: ‘Let's talk about pollination’. In hybrid images of nature, the Czech sculptor (*1984) takes questions of agricultural culture further with a view to climate change and biodiversity. Her mutating organisms are creatures of an ecosystem that has lost its balance. Hulačová formulates visions of an endangered environment and society in an idiosyncratic retro-futuristic style, alternating between hard and soft, industrially manufactured and organic materials and with stylistic references to folkloric traditions of Eastern Europe. At the end of the table talk, the chairs remain deserted, but the masks are arranged into a bone-pale, sculptural still life of flowers.

Eine eigenartige konspirative Sitzung steht im Mittelpunkt von Anna Hulačovás Installation. Die Gesichter der Tischgesellschaft sind hinter weißen Blütenmasken verborgen, die Mimik ist unkenntlich, der Genuss von Speisen oder Getränken unmöglich. Das Tischgespräch lässt sich aus dem Titel ableiten: „Let´s talk about pollination“. In hybriden Naturbildern denkt die tschechische Bildhauerin (*1984) Fragen der Agrarkultur mit Blick auf Klimawandel und Biodiversität weiter. Ihre mutierenden Organismen sind Geschöpfe eines aus der Balance geratenen Ökosystems. In einem eigenwillig retro-futuristischen Stil, im Wechsel aus harten und weichen, industriell gefertigten und organischen Materialien sowie mit stilistischen Rückgriffen auf folkloristische Traditionen Osteuropas formuliert Hulačová Visionen einer gefährdeten Umwelt und Gesellschaft. Am Ende des Tischgesprächs bleiben die Stühle verwaist, die Masken aber sind arrangiert zu einem knochenbleichen plastischen Blütenstillleben.
